Overview
The programme aims to instil theoretical knowledge and practical skills so learners have the capacity to handle residential and commercial building projects in terms of assisting for construction management under the supervision of a qualified and experienced practitioner.
This course will train learners to not only plan, draft, and coordinate construction and building projects, but also to establish smart financial management and decision-making, meeting the many and varied requirements of New Zealand legislation, Codes of Practice, and New Zealand and Australian Standards.
The programme shall provide recognition of proven knowledge and skills for anyone actively working in relevant roles while learners in general shall have the valuable hands-on experience of assisting qualified professionals such as construction managers and quantity surveyors. Thus, setting the learners up in furthering their abilities to reach their relevant career aspirations.

Entry Requirements
On completing this programme, graduates will be awarded the New Zealand Diploma in Construction (Level 6) with strands in Construction Management [Ref: 2420].
Upon completion of the programme, students will be awarded the New Zealand Diploma in Construction (Level 6) with units in Construction Management
Learners are required to demonstrate adequate skills – both literacy and numeracy (12 credits in Maths minimum and 12 literacy credits at NCEA Level 1 minimum), and/or have a relevant industry experience or a demonstrable relevant and equivalent knowledge and skills.
Meanwhile, international students are required to present an Academic IELTS exam with a minimum overall score of 6.0, with no band score less than 5.5. Alternately, international students can meet other acceptable evidence per NZQA’s English language requirements for international students.
Course Outcome
On successfully completing the programme, learners will be able to:

Oversee and direct construction operations through efficient communication methods with key stakeholders, handling and documenting contracts and its terms, progress, and fulfilment as reflected with the contractual obligations and industry best practices.

Operate and adhere within the official legislation and regulations of New Zealand which cover the building and construction industry.

Screen materials, textures, and finishes for selection, taking into consideration budget, sustainability, and environmental impact for building projects.

Study and assess construction projects for foundation and structure characteristics, fire protection, and external and interior design regardless of building size

Strategise and evaluate tender submissions, payment claims and certificates, contract variations, and time adjustment claims.

Identify and standardise procurement processes in compliance with legislative requirements and ethical considerations, carry out risk analysis and risk mitigation initiatives, and develop a tender bid proposal for a medium-scale building project.
Graduates of Construction Management strand will also be able to:

Roll out site logistics plans and adequately allocate resources for construction projects regardless of size, taking into consideration site safety, accommodation, access and movement, lifting equipment, traffic management, and waste minimisation.

Establish construction site and provision for its services to manage ongoing projects regardless of duration.

Develop and coordinate technical drawings to relevant team members crucial to the construction project.

Apply leadership principles within the team and set appropriate goals in a construction site workforce, cultivating a healthy and positive culture and overall work environment.
Learners who completed the course are qualified to work in the Construction trade with their capacity to perform construction management functions and responsibilities.
